After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

This is a totally predictable formulaic romantic comedy/drama. I had absolutely no doubt of what the outcome would be yet it was still an entertaining film. I would have enjoyed it much more if the language had been cleaned up. There is no need for the frequent F words and numerous other profanities, without its profusion of cursing; the story would have remained intact, the primary characters would have been more sympathetic, its positive messages could have reached a much broader audience and it would have earned a better grade form me.
Plot
This is the story of a broken man, his broken marriage, his broken family and his broken friends.

Life doesn't always go as planned for Patrick Solatano (Bradley Cooper) and he has lost everything -- his house, his job, and his wife. After spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain he suddenly finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert De Niro). Pat is now dedicated to rebuilding his life. He will remain positive and will reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation and the prickly mater of a restraining order. Pat's parents just want him to get back on his feet, that and to share the family's obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team.

One fine day during his morning run (while wearing his prerequisite black plastic garbage bag) he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious and irritating young widow with deep seated problems of her own, things get complicated...sound familiar yet? Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, circumventing the restraining order but only if he'll do something very important for her. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond grows between these two broken souls and silver linings begin to appear in both of their lives.
